This policy explains what happens to your personal data when you visit darkmancer.com. The short version: this website runs no advertising, no analytics, and no third-party tracking. We collect very little, and we do not sell or share anything for marketing purposes.
Who we are
This site is operated by Darkmancer Games, an independent game studio based in Canada. If you have any question about your data, or you want to see, correct or delete it, email admin@darkmancer.com.
What we do not do
Because it is unusual, it is worth stating plainly. This website does not:
- run advertising of any kind, or embed advertising networks
- use analytics or visitor-tracking software
- set tracking, profiling or advertising cookies
- build advertising profiles about you, or share your data with data brokers
- sell your personal data to anyone, for any purpose
What we collect, and why
Forms and email
If you submit a form on this site, or email one of our addresses — including subscribing to the newsletter at DarkmancerGamesNews@darkmancer.com — we keep your message and your email address so that we can reply and, where you have asked for it, send you news about our games. Newsletter emails will always include a way to unsubscribe, and we will not pass your address to anyone else.
Server logs and security
Like essentially every website, our web server keeps automatic logs of the requests it receives. These records include your IP address, the page requested, the time, and your browser user-agent string. They exist to keep the site running and to detect abuse, such as repeated failed login attempts. Security software on the site records failed logins for the same reason. These logs are not used to track visitors or build profiles, and they are rotated and discarded by our hosting provider in the normal course of operation.
Cookies
We set no advertising or analytics cookies, and this site shows no cookie consent banner because it has nothing to ask consent for. WordPress itself may set a small number of strictly functional cookies, for example to keep an administrator’s login session active. Nothing in these is used to follow you around the internet.
Comments
Comments are turned off across this site, so there is no comment form and we collect no data through one. If you want to reply to something in a devlog post, email us or reach us on one of the social accounts linked in the footer.
Embedded content from other sites
Devlog posts may in future embed content such as videos hosted elsewhere. Embedded content behaves as though you had visited that other website directly, which means the provider may set its own cookies and collect data about your interaction with it. We do not control that. Links to our profiles on X, YouTube and Reddit are ordinary links — following one takes you to that platform, where that platform’s own privacy policy applies.
Who processes your data on our behalf
Running a website means relying on a few service providers. Our web hosting and email are provided by Namecheap, which necessarily stores the site’s content, its database and our email. These providers act on our instructions and are not permitted to use your data for their own marketing.
Where your data is stored
Although we are based in Canada, our web hosting is provided on servers located in the United States. That means the limited information described above — server logs, and any email or form submission you send us — is stored and processed outside Canada, and may be accessible to foreign courts and authorities under the laws of that country. If you would rather not have your information handled that way, please do not send it to us through this website.
Your rights
As a Canadian business, we handle personal information in line with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). You have the right to ask what personal information we hold about you, to see it, to have inaccurate information corrected, and to withdraw your consent to our using it — for example by unsubscribing from the newsletter. You can also ask us to delete it.
To exercise any of these, email admin@darkmancer.com. We will respond within thirty days. Because we hold so little, most requests are straightforward: usually the only information we have about you is an email you sent us or a newsletter subscription.
If you are not satisfied with how we have handled your request, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada at priv.gc.ca. If you live in a Canadian province with its own privacy legislation, such as Quebec, Alberta or British Columbia, you may also be able to complain to your provincial regulator.
Visitors from outside Canada keep the rights their own law gives them. If you are in the United Kingdom or the European Economic Area, that includes the rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability and objection under the UK and EU GDPR; if you are in California or a state with comparable law, it includes the rights that law grants you. Use the same email address and we will handle your request under whichever rules apply to you.
Children
This website is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has sent us personal data, email us and we will delete it.
Our games
This policy covers this website only. Our games are separate products and are covered by their own privacy policy, which will be published alongside each release.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle personal data, we will update this page and change the date at the top. If a change is significant, we will say so in a devlog post rather than quietly amending the text.
